Research-use Terms
Version 3 · effective 1 August 2026
1. Scope and acceptance
These Terms govern access to and use of the MAGNET research service provided by the University of Münster with technical operation by ChemInnovation GmbH. By creating an account, you confirm that you have read and accepted these Terms and the Privacy Information.
2. Research access
MAGNET is made available solely for lawful, non-commercial scientific research. Access is personal. You must provide accurate registration information, keep your password confidential and must not share, sell or transfer your account. The service may suspend or delete accounts where information is inaccurate, limits are circumvented or these Terms are breached.
3. Rights in MAGNET and restricted rights in outputs
All rights in the MAGNET software, model, weights, architecture, interface, ranking method, documentation and service remain with their respective rights holders. Access does not grant any right to obtain, copy or reconstruct the model.
For candidate structures, rankings, confidence values and other results generated by MAGNET specifically for your request (Service Outputs), you receive only a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use them within your own non-commercial research project. Members of the same research team may use the outputs only for that project and subject to equivalent restrictions.
Service Outputs may not be used for commercial services, product development, regulatory decisions without independent validation, database construction, benchmarking offered to third parties, model training, knowledge distillation, automated bulk analysis, redistribution or resale. These contractual restrictions concern the Service Outputs as obtained through MAGNET and do not restrict independently obtained pre-existing knowledge.
4. Publication and attribution
You may include individual Service Outputs in a scientific thesis, presentation, preprint or publication if this is necessary to report your research and if you:
- clearly identify the structures as computational MAGNET predictions rather than experimentally confirmed facts;
- independently validate conclusions for which structural correctness is material;
- cite the MAGNET publication shown under “Cite” on the website, or its published successor; and
- include an acknowledgement such as: “Candidate structures were generated using the MAGNET research service (University of Münster and NXT Spectra).”
Bulk publication of outputs or downloadable result collections requires prior written permission from the University of Münster.
5. Your submitted data and licence
You retain any rights you already hold in spectra, molecular formulae, annotations and contextual information submitted to MAGNET (Submitted Data). You grant the University of Münster and ChemInnovation GmbH a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable and sublicensable licence, unlimited in time and, for non-personal data, irrevocable, to:
- host, store, reproduce, inspect, analyse, annotate, clean, transform and combine the Submitted Data;
- generate and retain predictions, descriptors, labels, statistics, datasets and other derived materials;
- conduct scientific research, validate methods and reproduce results;
- train, test, benchmark, improve and commercialise machine-learning models, databases, software and related products; and
- share data with research or development partners and publish results, provided that personal identifiers are removed before independent reuse or publication unless a lawful exception applies.
The licence survives account closure. Removal of personal identifiers does not require deletion of non-personal Submitted Data, aggregate results, trained model parameters or derived materials that can no longer reasonably be linked to you. Data-protection rights and withdrawal rights for personal data remain unaffected and take precedence where mandatory law applies.
6. Authority to submit and confidentiality
You represent that you are authorised to submit and license the Submitted Data and that its use under these Terms does not infringe confidentiality duties, contractual restrictions, intellectual-property rights, data-protection law or other third-party rights. You must not submit personal data, special-category personal data, confidential client material, trade secrets or unpublished third-party data unless you have all necessary permissions.
MAGNET is a shared research service and is not offered as a confidential data room. Submitted Data is intentionally eligible for reuse under Section 5. Do not upload data that you are not prepared to license on that basis.
7. Prohibited conduct
- automated access, scraping or use outside the interactive website;
- creating multiple accounts or using third-party accounts to circumvent limits;
- systematic extraction intended to reproduce outputs, datasets or model behaviour;
- reverse engineering, model extraction, weight recovery or knowledge distillation;
- security testing without prior written permission;
- uploading unlawful code or data or interfering with availability; and
- misrepresenting MAGNET predictions as verified identifications.
8. Limits, availability and termination
Requests are subject to account, daily global and lifetime limits. Accepted requests may count even if processing later fails. Limits may be changed and the service may be paused, modified or discontinued at any time. No particular availability, response time, result quality, account duration or preservation of data is promised.
9. Scientific limitations and warranty
MAGNET provides probabilistic research hypotheses. Outputs may be incomplete, chemically implausible or incorrect and are not analytical certificates or professional advice. You remain solely responsible for experimental confirmation, interpretation and any decision based on an output.
The free service is provided without warranties regarding accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, availability or non-infringement. Statutory liability for intent, gross negligence, injury to life, body or health, and other liability that cannot legally be excluded remains unaffected. For slight negligence, liability is limited to breach of essential obligations and foreseeable, typical damage to the extent permitted by law.
10. Account deletion and continued data use
You may request account deletion via info@nxt-spectra.de. Personal account identifiers will be erased subject to statutory exceptions. Non-personal Submitted Data, Service Outputs, derived materials and trained models may continue to be used under Section 5.
11. Final provisions
German law applies to the extent permitted, without limiting mandatory protections that apply under another law. Statutory rules determine jurisdiction. If any provision is invalid, the remaining provisions remain unaffected. Material changes will be presented to users before continued use where renewed acceptance is legally required.
